google_logoThere is information from the Chinese market research firm Analysys International, that Google (GOOG) China made CNY973 million revenue in the first three quarters of 2008.

Most of us working in the Search Marketing industry in China normally assume Google is not making substantial revenue inroads in this market. This is the first ever-published operating revenue of Google China, though it comes via a third party and give an insight that will surprise many. The report said that the overall scale of China’s search engine market was CNY4.664 billion in the same period, a year-on-year increase of 75.8%. The Chinese search engine provider Baidu.com has a 60-62% market share with  Google China, coming in at around 22%.

In providing a contrast by revenue, Baidu made CNY2.275 billion in the same three quarters of 2008.

Commenting on this report, Dr. Kaifu Lee, vice president of Google, says that Google is very optimistic and its traffic and performance in 2008 has exceeded expectations. I would add that he must be not only be excited but maybe somewhat pleasently surprised by this growth.
