The 10 Commandments of the Entrepreneur (in China) PDF Print E-mail

I am often asked about how (and why) I started SinoTech Group in China and thought it maybe of interest if I put my 10 Commandments list for the Chinese Entrepreneur. Although starting a business anywhere is a huge challenge being a Westerner starting a business in China seems madness. I can say that there have been many times that I have questioned my abilities and commitment to the startup life but that really is limited to small periods of self doubt and I am sure other entrepreneurs can relate to this.

However, I can reflect on a number of key lessons and provide these as learnings for others considering opening a new company in China...   please find the list here.

The First Commandment - Establish and grow relationships with both locals and expats in China

The Second Commandment - For the Expat, Learn to speak Chinese or if Chinese learn to speak English

The Third Commandment - Have the difficult conversations – they’re always worth it

The Fourth Commandment - Cafefully consider the location of the Chinese city to start your new business... (You don't need to only consider Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou)

The Fifth Commandment - Take time to hire and be fast to fire

The Sixth Commandment - Pay attention to detail

The Seventh Commandment - You always have a choice

The Eighth Commandment - Be objective and maintain a positive attitude

The Ninth Commandment - Perception is reality - you’re always creating an impression

The Tenth Commandment - Everything is a negotiation, even if you don’t think it is
