According to research conducted by Pearl Research, the  Chinese online games market will have  revenues exceeding $5.5 billion in 2012.  This is a reflection of the significant growth of this sector in China and we can look at last year where this sector grew 63% to $2.7 billion.

It has been reported in the Press and seen in this past months results from QQ, Shanda and others that many Chinese game operators this year had little effect from the worldwide economic downturn  on their business.

There is a number of posts in this blog about the Chinese game companies but as a recap, China’s most popular online games are Netease’s “Fantasy Westward Journey,” followed by Giant’s “Zhengtu Online,” Tencent’s “Dungeon and Fighter,” and Blizzard’s “World of Warcraft.”

Six game operators–Tencent, Changyou, The9, Netease, Shanda and Giant–each made more than $200 million in 2008. Although the recent news that The9 loosing the gaming rights to NetEase will certainly have them positioned differently this year.
