Google China will introduce a new business strategy, under which it will use its international technology to serve Google users in China -- "not Google China, but Google in China," Google China CEO John Liu said in an interview with CBN Weekly published December 10. Under its new strategy, Google China intends to reduce investment into wholly localized products but continue to offer its global products in China, the report said.
According to the post by JLM Pacific Epoch, an unnamed Google China engineer said that, employees including tech chiefs and project managers from webpage, maps, mobile search and other teams have left in the past few months.
I wonder if this news is a confirmation that Google China accepts that it will not be able to break the Baidu dominance. The search environment is certainly not the same for Google as it battles against many external forces- not just commercial.. But given Google is making headway on the mobile search, I was surprised in part by this story not being more bullish about Googles ability to take it to Baidu on this medium.
2010 look like a very interesting year for the Chinese search market as more players enter or begin to make serious efforts to establish their own market share; youdao, soso and sogou to name a few.....
