Google has postponed the launch of its mobile phone in China amid a dispute with the government over internet censorship. According to reports in local media, Google has unilaterally canceled development of its gPhone with China Unicom and two other handsets manufacturers in China, marking another major adjustment following the announcement of its possible withdrawal from China's search engine market.
The news and rumors are continuing to swirl in China regards what Google will do or not do... and more of us in the Chinese Internet space are holding on to every turn as the future of Google China looks less certain. Today, media are saying reporting that the Gphone launch is now on hold and this will only go to fuel the speculation of a departure.
China Tech News reported China Unicom has reportedly published an internal notice stating that Google will no longer give authorization to cooperative content using Google's marks and applications. The product launch of China's first WCDMA-based Google Phone which was previously scheduled on January 20, 2010, has also been canceled.
So, as each day passes I move from those that suggested we would see a moderated and possibly a different looking Google in China but maybe they just might really be leaving.... still can't help but want to remain in denial of this possibility
