The number of mobile phone users in China is believed to be nearing 900 million as of the end of March 2011, according to according to stats collected by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Therefore Marketers should be clambering to use this medium given the huge 'reach' potential.
So within our Agency (and maybe across others in China) we ponder about this being the year to leap into mobile marketing. Our clients often ask us about our capabilities and experiences in this area as well as wanting our candid views of if their target group would be reached and more to the point influenced by mobile marketing.
It is with this context I created a presentation about mobile marketing in China. One, to show that we do have some knowledge and experience in China with this medium but also to help those considering it to be better informed.
In China, although mobile online advertising only started to become a common marketing method a few years ago, Digital Jungle (my Agency) has yet to really do much with this channel. This is by no means indicating a flat mobile advertising sector; to the contrary, it has seen rapid growth and reached a large volume.
The total mobile advertisement spending doubled between 2009 and 2010, from US$101 million to US$223.2 million. The figure is expected to reach US$448.7 this year, about a half of the United States’ predicted 2011 spending. Some US$1.4 billion will be spent on mobile online advertising in China by 2015, marking a growth rate that will surpass that of the United States.
If you are interested in knowing more about the Chinese Mobile Marketing sector then please take a look at the presentation below. Tweeting it would be welcomed :)
