Twitter Explodes with Visitors Shooting Up To 19 Million PDF Print E-mail

For those that are regular readers of my blog you will know I am a twitter fan (and possibly a twitter addict). So when I saw the latest comScore chart showing Twitters incredible growth, I felt compelled to highlight these merits to all that would listen.

twitter-chart-ww-march-09Today, comScore released its global numbers for March, 2009. Worldwide visitors to Twitter.com increased 95 percent in the month of March from 9.8 million to 19.1 million, according to its estimates. This compares to 9.3 million visitors in the U.S. alone

These numbers only count visitors to Twitter’s Website, which is not the same as active users and also does not include people who interact with Twitter via desktop or mobile clients (a large portion of users). But the comScore numbers provide a good proxy for Twitter’s overall growth, which was helped recently by Ashton Kutcher’s race with CNN to one million followers, and Oprah’s subsequent adoption of the service.

For the slightly less famous twitter users in China (that are in the marketing space) can be found by reading: Chinese Internet Marketing Gurus on Twitter

So I expect Twitter will continue to grow as we see high profile personalities and companies jumping on the bandwagon…  I look to the 50 million milestone (in the next few months) and the issues of twitter name squatting and twitter spam doing the rounds in the blogosphere.
