10 Optimization Tips For Bing PDF Print E-mail

The introduction of Bing into the search landscape has been good for those of us in Search Marketing. Not in so much as bringing in more business opportunities but from the perspective it got people/companies talking about search again. Although we have started to see the initial interest start to wane, the increases in Bing users (mostly in North America) over the past month of so has been impressive

Now people has started to ask us (SinoTech Group) about SEO for Bing. So here is a couple of observations that we have made in relationship to Bing. Once you rank well in Bing's, you can tweak your optimization efforts to meet Baidu's & Google's more stringent SEO requirements.

Here are ten easy ways to get Bing to notice you:

  1. The older your website, the better. Bing seems to place a lot of emphasis on the age of a domain, so if you're just starting out, you might consider buying an older domain in order to get your site a higher ranking.
  2. Titles seem important. Bing seems to place a lot more emphasis on title tags than Google does, so make sure you use your best keywords in the title tags of every page on your site.
  3. Text is terrific. For Google, the amount of text you have on a web page doesn't play a huge role. Not so with Bing, which seems to place a higher value on pages that have at least 300 words or more.
  4. Outbound links are OK. Google has always seemed to frown on the number of outbound links you have on a page. But Bing actually seems to like them--at least for now.
  5. Backlinks are even better. If you're frustrated because all of your efforts to get links pointing to your site haven't gotten you anywhere with Google, then good news! When it comes to backlinks, Bing's attitude seems to "the more, the merrier"--as long as the links are coming from relevant sites.
  6. Make sure your website’s content matches that with your keywords.
  7. Get more links to your site in terms of quantity as well as quality. Seems to be important from a Bing perspective
  8. Use a sitemap for better indexing
  9. Submit your site here - http://www.bing.com/docs/submit.aspx and your site sitemap here - http://www.bing.com/webmaster
  10. Also seems Bing likes a high target anchor percentage; this means the percentage of backlinks that are anchored with your target keyword

So there you have it--ten easy optimization tips to help you score a good ranking with Bing. If any of you have additional Bing SEO Tips, be sure to share them with us all in the comments below!
